Last Update: 15 March 2009
These are shows that get (or got, for older shows) a fair amount of positive discussion in rec.arts.anime.misc or its predecessors, but aren't yet in the Primer. Does anyone like any of these shows, or any other shows not yet in the Anime Primer, enough to write entries for them? (On 27 January 2007, Dave Baranyi described the sort of anime that should definitely be listed in the Primer: “...one that captures my imagination, ignites my sense-of-wonder, makes me care about the characters and their situations, and makes me want to watch it over again to recapture the experience. ... I adjust my criteria depending upon the intended audience, so my expectations for a Saturday morning anime series that is aimed at pre-teens are different from my expectations for a prime time series, and again different for a late night series.”)
Remember, only write entries for shows you like enough to recommend to others.
There are some obvious holes in the Primer's coverage - reviews of these seminal and popular-at-the-time shows will be accepted immediately:
The list maintainer being human, reviews of these shows which the list maintainer liked when he watched them will also be accepted immediately (assuming he doesn't write them first):
If you're still looking for suggestions, reviews of any of these would be smiled upon:
(Yes, I know that a few of these already have Primer entries. However, those entries were inherited from when Steve Pearl maintained the Primer; they are unattributed, and substantially shorter and less detailed than current entries are. I consider them to be “placeholders.”)
A particularly energetic and knowledgable volunteer is sought to re-write the entry for Gundam, so that it better reflects the multiplicity of continuities of that franchise. Splitting the entry into multiple entries by continuity is acceptable. (Note: One such volunteer may have been found.)
A particularly energetic and knowledgable volunteer is sought to re-write the entries for Tenchi Muyo, so that they better reflect the multiplicity of continuities of that franchise.
A note regarding what's on currently: With the exception of extremely-long-running shows (such as Sazae-san), please do not write entries for shows that are still in their initial airings. The list maintainer will be happy to accept entries for good shows once the stories are complete, but doesn't want to take even a small risk of needing to delete an entry for a series that faltered in its ending arc. Please wait until a show is complete before writing an entry for it.
See the Complete Index of Shows for what's already in the Primer.
